Computer Misuse Act - Cybercrime v. Computer Crime

Here's a link to a brief article on the CMA.  Nothing earth shattering but I found it useful as a reminder of the differences between Computer Crime and Cybercrime.  For too long, these terms have been used interchangeably.  They are not synonymous and as lawyers interested (or vested) in IT, we should know the difference.  While hardly terms of art (neither are many other common terms in this nascent industry), let me hazard a brief distinction of the 2 types of crime:- Essentially computer crimes are crimes to the computer and network systems while cybercrimes are traditional crimes eg. fraud which are performed using computers and/or networks such as the Internet.  For the former, you need to review the CMA and for the latter, it would still be the pertinent sections of the penal code or other sector specific criminal legislation but read with the CMA in many instances. Worth remembering the next time a reporter comes knocking.

CMA is of course accessible at http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/

Note to Readers: No, this is not an April Fools joke...:-)

The difference between these terms are indeed very small, but it seems to me that professionals deal with this.
